Chaungtha beach lies in the southwest of Pathein( the capital of Ayeyarwaddy division) and is approximately 6 hours drive from Yangon. The beach curves inwards and is nearly one mile long. There is an island called Thebyu, which literally means “white sand”, and can be seen from the beach. But actually, it is not formed with white sand, but is formed by oysters and shells carried and piled up by tidal waves.
