Bagan

Bagan, Myanmar

Bagan is an ancient city that was the capital of the first Burmese empire ,founded by King Anawrahta, is located in the dry central plain of the country, on the eastern bank of the Ayeyarwaddy River. It is one of the riches archaeological sites in South-east Asia and also the heart of Myanmar. Bagan serves as home to temples and building built from the 11th century to the 13th century. The Magic Bagan has inspired visitors to Myanmar for nearly 1000 years. Bagan covers an area of 42 sq.km containing over 2,000 well-preserved pagodas and temples , most of which were built by the ancient kings and leaders of Burma. An earthquake on July 8, 1975 severely damaged more than half of the important structures and irreparably destroyed many of them. The whole of Buphaya Pagoda for 9th centuries a landmark for river-boatmen tumbled into the Ayeyarwaddy and was carried off by the waters.  The village also has a school for lacquer ware for which the region is noted. However, Bagan is still the most ideal destination for tourists to visit regardless of the time of the year. There are four most famous pagodas which has the special features as follow:

Dhu        = Dhammayan( The thickest )

Nyan     = Thabinnyu( the Omniscient )

Anu        = Ananda( The most sculptural )

Thakho = Shwezigon( The most powerful )

At Bagan all monuments are not the same. All are highly original in design and conception. The structural techniques, similar to the gothic form of Western Cathedral architecture, were in advance of contemporary engineering in Europe. Technologically daring in notion, and exquisite in execution, the Temples of Bagan are of a splendor rarely witnessed anywhere else in the world.

It is about 634 km away from Yangon and almost 12 hours drive. It can also be reached by public transport (by air and express buses) or by train. Bagain is unlike the cities in the lower part of Myanmar, Bagan does not experience a rainy season and it is the perfect climate of Bagan that enables tourists to discover and explore the ancient city with ease all year round. Bagan may be an old city, but it does offer something fresh to its visitors for all the times. That’s why Bagan is one of the city that should not miss for visitors.
