It is located on the way to Bago and a junction town where the road to Pyay forks off to the northwest, while Bago and Mandalay to the north-east. There is a huge Taukkyan War Cemetery with 27,000 graves of soldiers who died in the Burma and Assam campaigns of WWII, maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
