Kalaw – Inle is one of Myanmar’s most rewarding travel routes, known for its scenic landscapes, cool climate, and rich cultural experiences. This journey connects the former British hill station of Kalaw with the serene waters of Inle Lake, offering travelers a perfect blend of nature, tradition, and adventure.

Kalaw is famous for its pine forests, rolling hills, and colonial-era buildings. The town’s relaxed atmosphere and cooler temperatures make it an ideal starting point for trekking. Trails from Kalaw wind through tea plantations, farmland, and small villages inhabited by ethnic communities such as the Pa-O and Danu people. Along the way, visitors experience warm hospitality, traditional lifestyles, and breathtaking countryside views.

As the trail descends toward Inle, the landscape gradually changes, revealing fertile plains and distant hills. The arrival at Inle Lake feels especially rewarding after the journey. Inle’s calm waters, stilted houses, and floating gardens create a peaceful contrast to the mountain paths of Kalaw. The lake is also known for its leg-rowing fishermen and vibrant local markets, which reflect the unique culture of the Intha people.

Kalaw – Inle is more than a physical journey; it is a cultural transition from highland traditions to lakeside life. For travelers seeking meaningful experiences, natural beauty, and authentic encounters, this route remains one of Myanmar’s most memorable adventures.

Program:

Breakfast at your hotel and start your sightseeing at 8:00 AM, then head to Kalaw, which is situated 70 km west of Taunggyi, the capital of Shan state, and about 50 km from Pindaya caves. Kalaw sits high on the western edge of the Shan Plateau and was a popular hill station in the British times.

Sightseeing in Kalaw includes Nee Paya, a gold lacquered bamboo Buddha, and you can also visit the daily life of local tribes, and you can taste the traditional food of local people.

Then drive back to Nyaung Shwe and transfer to Inle Lake by long tail boat, where you will observe the fishermen with their own style of fishing, floating farms and gardens, and visit the Nam Pam, formerly known as ‘jumping cats monastery’, Phaungdaw U Pagoda, and silk weaving Inn Paw Khone Village.
